Multicultural Greek Council (MGC)
MGC Greeks Multicultural Greek Council @ UNM
The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) is the governing body for 12 fraternity and sorority chapters. This is UNM’s largest Greek council and is comprised of chapters with diverse backgrounds, including Historically African American, Native American, Latina/Latino, Multicultural and local groups. Each MGC organization is a close-knit group of friends who have a focus on scholarship, service, friendship and leadership. You may be asking yourself.... so what's the difference between these chapters and other fraternities and sororities that I have seen? Well, multicultural chapters have an added value of Cultural Pride. Cultural Pride is a cornerstone of Multicultural chapters, providing support and strength to each organization, as well as a sense of purpose.
MGC chapters recruit new members through a variety of ways. There is not a "recruitment week" for all Multicultural chapters at one time of the year. Instead, each chapter plans its own events throughout the year. This independence allows the chapters to create events that are specific to their values, as well as their cultural focus. Joining one of these organizations provides a wonderful opportunity for students interested in Greek Life.
