Four Councils. Four Ways to Belong.

Every recognized fraternity and sorority at UNM belongs to one of four governing councils. Each council has its own organizations, traditions, and process for welcoming new members.

Some councils use a structured recruitment experience. Others connect with prospective members through informational meetings, public events, and chapter-led membership intake processes throughout the year.

You do not need to know which council is right for you before you begin. Explore every option, meet different organizations, ask questions, and choose the experience that best aligns with your values, goals, and interests.

College Panhellenic Council

Find Sisterhood. Grow With Purpose.

UNM’s Panhellenic sororities bring students together through friendship, academic support, leadership, service, and opportunities for personal growth.

Panhellenic Primary Recruitment is a multi-day experience where participants meet each Panhellenic chapter, learn about the responsibilities and benefits of membership, and explore where they feel most at home.

Fall 2026 Primary Recruitment

August 20 through August 24, 2026

Registration for Fall 2026 recruitment is open. Participating in recruitment allows you to explore your options, but it does not require you to join a sorority.

Interfraternity Council

Build Brotherhood. Lead With Purpose.

UNM’s Interfraternity Council fraternities offer opportunities to build friendships, develop leadership skills, serve the community, and create lasting connections.

IFC uses a flexible, relationship-based recruitment process. Prospective members are encouraged to meet multiple chapters, attend recruitment events, ask questions, and take time to determine which organization may be the best fit.

Completing the IFC interest form is not a commitment to join. It simply helps the council and its recognized chapters connect you with upcoming events and recruitment information.

National Pan-Hellenic Council

Honor the Legacy. Shape What Comes Next.

UNM’s National Pan-Hellenic Council represents historically Black fraternities and sororities with a longstanding commitment to scholarship, service, leadership, cultural pride, and lifelong connection.

Each NPHC organization manages its own membership intake process and timeline. Chapters may host public programs, informational meetings, and interest events throughout the academic year, and not every organization conducts intake each semester.

The best first step is to learn about each organization, complete the NPHC interest form, and attend public council and chapter events.

United Greek Council

Celebrate Culture. Create Community.

The United Greek Council brings together culturally based fraternities and sororities centered on identity, heritage, belonging, leadership, and service.

Each UGC organization has its own history, values, traditions, and process for welcoming new members. Opportunities to connect may include cultural programs, community events, informational meetings, and chapter-led membership activities throughout the year.
