We are excited to open the 2024 FSL Annual Award Applications. Please use the links below to access each application. Anyone is eligible to nominate a member of our community for these awards. Winners will be announced at the 2024 Greek Banquet on February 25, 2024.

Fraternity/Sorority Members of the Year

This award is given to one member of each governing council in UNM Fraternity & Sorority Life. This award recognizes members of the fraternity and sorority community who have shown participation, dedication, and a genuine commitment to the improvement of the UNM fraternity and sorority community. Award winners should be involved in their organization and the UNM community as a whole and actively participate in initiatives, programs, and opportunities to make the community better. These individuals also work to inspire and motivate those around them to better live the values of fraternities and sororities, in part through role modeling the values themselves.

Nominees must have been an initiated member for the entirety of 2023. Nominees must be in good standing with their chapter and the University at the time of nomination to be considered. Nominees must be current, active members of their chapter (the only exception is for alumni members that graduated in December '23.)

Chapter President of the Year

This award recognizes exemplary chapter presidents that have made an impact in and on their chapter and leave a strong legacy. These presidents may have encountered challenges and resistance, worked to make chapter change, or helped an excellent chapter become even better. Award winners are presidents with strong leadership skills capable of leading by example and representing the organization and the fraternity and sorority community as a whole in a positive way through values-based decision-making. The number of winners will be determined by the quality of applications submitted.

Nominees must have served as chapter president for at least one full semester in 2023. Nominations for this award will require thoughtful answers to three questions from the nominator.

Debbie Morris Rising Star (Emerging Leader) Award

This award is named after former Student Activities Center Director, Debbie Morris. Debbie has been involved in Fraternity & Sorority Life since her time as an undergraduate member of Alpha Chi Omega. Debbie's passion for the Fraternity and Sorority community is the reason the community exists as it does today. This award recognizes members of the fraternity and sorority community that are the leaders of tomorrow. These individuals, while relatively new to fraternity and sorority involvement, show promise and are eager to pursue leadership opportunities in their chapter, council, and beyond. There may be multiple winners of this award depending on the amount and quality of submissions.

Nominees must be an active member in good standing with their chapter. Nominees must have at least one full academic year remaining to be considered for the award.

Advancing the Community Award

This award recognizes Fraternity and Sorority members whose actions and involvement have advanced the UNM Fraternity & Sorority Community. They have served or been involved in another student organization, a non-profit, a community organization, or any similar group. These individuals have made a positive impact in how others see and interact with the Fraternity and Sorority Community.

Chapter Advisor of the Year Award

This award recognizes outstanding chapter advisors who provide support in a variety of ways. Award winners demonstrate their commitment to the chapter by upholding the values of the organization and holding members accountable to organizational expectations. While advisors are sometimes members of fraternities/sororities themselves, outstanding advisors can also be faculty and staff members who dedicate time to supporting chapters and bettering the fraternity/sorority community.

Nominees must have served in a volunteer chapter advisory role for the entirety of 2023. Nominations for this award will require thoughtful answers to three questions from the nominator. You will need to provide the nominee's full name and contact information.

Campus Partner of the Year Award

This award recognizes outstanding UNM Staff and Faculty who have been excellent partners to the Fraternity and Sorority Community. Nominees have used their position and/or resources at UNM to help advance the interests of the entire FSL Community. Nominees, while they do not have to be affiliated, openly display and exemplify the shared values of the FSL Community.
