Our Vision, Mission, and Values
Building a Stronger Fraternity and Sorority Community
UNM Fraternity and Sorority Life is committed to creating a community where students find belonging, succeed academically, grow as leaders, serve others, and take responsibility for the well-being of their organizations and communities.
Our mission, vision, pillars, and guiding commitments shape how we support students, advise organizations, develop programs, and plan for the future.
Our Mission
Fraternity and Sorority Life at the University of New Mexico provides advising, education, advocacy, and support for fraternity and sorority students, chapters, councils, advisors, and partners.
Through intentional programs, chapter coaching, leadership development, community engagement, risk reduction, and culturally responsive practices, FSL strengthens student belonging, academic achievement, wellness, social responsibility, and connection to the University.
Our Vision
Fraternity and Sorority Life will be a thriving, visible, and trusted community that elevates the UNM student experience by developing servant, proactive, and curious leaders who build belonging, strengthen campus pride, serve the broader community, and live their values with care, accountability, and purpose.
Our Community Pillars
Our five community pillars reflect what we want the fraternity and sorority experience at UNM to provide and what we expect members and organizations to help create.
Belonging
We build meaningful relationships, strengthen connection and inclusion, and help students find a sense of home within UNM.
Scholarship
We promote academic achievement, intellectual growth, persistence, and student success.
Leadership
We help students develop the skills, judgment, confidence, and self-awareness needed to lead with purpose.
Service
We contribute through meaningful service and civic responsibility to UNM, Albuquerque, and the broader community.
Accountability
We live our values, care for one another, act responsibly, and address harm honestly.
Our Guiding Commitments
The Fraternity and Sorority Life Office puts its mission into practice through four guiding commitments.
Educate
We create intentional learning experiences that help students and organizations develop knowledge, skills, and confidence.
Support
We provide advising, coaching, resources, communication, and care to help students, chapters, councils, and advisors succeed.
Advocate
We represent the needs and contributions of the fraternity and sorority community and work to secure the partnerships, resources, and institutional support needed for it to thrive.
Collaborate
We build purposeful relationships with students, advisors, alumni, inter/national organizations, campus partners, and community stakeholders.
Living Our Values
Our mission and values are not simply statements on a page. They guide how we make decisions, develop leaders, respond to challenges, support one another, and measure the strength of our community.
Every member and organization has a role in creating a fraternity and sorority experience that reflects care, accountability, purpose, and pride in UNM.
